Hawai’i is making bold steps to move away from its dependence on petroleum & coal. By 2045, it aims to achieve 100% renewable portfolio standards (RPS). In a push towards net-negative emissions, it has also vowed “to sequester more atmospheric carbon and greenhouse gases than emitted within the State as quickly as practicable.” Better yet, it’s focusing on ways to green up its energy-intensive network of air, ground & marine transport.
You can be part of this change by earning a Hawai’i degree or certificate in energy. UH Mānoa’s Hawai‘i Natural Energy Institute (HNEI) is a good place to start your educational research. It’s focused on renewable energy technologies and its talented faculty & staff should be able to guide you towards the best degree pathway. You may also want to investigate programs in the School of Ocean and Earth Science & Technology (SOEST).
